HYGIENE

Periodic professional cleanups help to remove food, plaque, calculus, that accumulate around your teeth. We use specialized instruments that do not damage your enamel and gums leading to a safer and thorough cleanup.

The biggest misconception about regular cleanups is that they damage your teeth. A professional cleanup done by our dentist/hygienist leads to healthy gums and teeth. Our aim at Bay Dental is to convert all our clients into recall patients which basically means that you should not have to pay for extensive and expensive dental treatments for the rest of your life provided you get a regular cleanup at our practice every 6 months.

Call our reception today to get added to our automatic recall visit appointment software.

Best Tips To Maintain Hygiene
Brushing
It is advisable to use soft/ultra-soft brush while brushing your teeth. We at Bay Dental also advice all our clients to consider switching to a battery operated toothbrush as research has shown it provides a better clean. Our director, Dr. Shravan Chawla, is an advisor with Oral B toothbrushes that is the market leader in oral care. We educate all our clients with the correct technique for tooth brushing to help maintain and prevent future problems.
Tooth Paste
There are plenty of options available in the market for toothpaste. Every toothpaste has a different set of ingredients that are applicable to diff symptoms. Sensitivity toothpaste such as Sensodyne, Colgate sensitive, etc. helps to reduce symptoms but do not solve the problem. Likewise, ayurvedic toothpaste such as Patanjali, Dant Kranti show limited improvement in symptoms as they are not research-based products. Always consult your dentist on which is the best toothpaste for you.
Flossing
Flossing is the golden standard for oral hygiene. We show and educate all our patients with the correct technique for flossing. Flossing, if done correctly, can help tremendously in preventing major dental problems. However, poor technique can lead to damage of gums and bleeding. Patients who are unable to floss, we provide them a water flosser/Waterpik that is an automatic water flosser to prevent food from getting stuck in between the teeth. We provide a complimentary automated toothbrush/water flosser to all our smile makeover/implant/full mouth rehabilitation patients.
Tongue Cleaning
Contrary to popular belief, tongue cleaning can go a long way in preventing bad breath. The tongue harbors bacteria and organisms that give foul taste and smell. Research has shown that by cleaning your tongue, you can prevent bad breath by up to 70%. Tongue cleaning along with using a good mouth wash can eliminate bad breath.
Mouth Wash
The market is flooded with multiple brands and it is important to understand the advantages and disadvantages of each. Primarily, one should try to use an alcohol-free mouth wash. Alcohol-based mouthwashes should be used by diluting them in water. Mouthwashes like Listerine if used concentrated, can lead to a burning sensation in your mouth which is actually equivalent to a chemical burn. Always consult your dentist as to which is the best option for you.
